Why convert in the browser instead of uploading?
HEIC converters are everywhere, and nearly all of them work the same way: your photos are uploaded to their server, converted there, and offered back. But camera-roll photos are among the most personal files you own — they embed GPS coordinates of where they were taken, and they show whatever your life looks like. This converter never sees any of that. The decoder is delivered to your browser as WebAssembly, runs on your device, and the only copy of your photo that ever exists is the one on your screen. It's faster for big batches too — nothing has to upload before work starts.

Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?
Since iOS 11, iPhones shoot in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default because it stores the same quality as JPG in roughly half the space — that's months of extra camera roll on a 128 GB phone. The trade-off is compatibility: plenty of websites, Windows apps and Android devices still don't accept it.
Why can't Windows open my HEIC files?
Windows needs the HEVC video codec to decode HEIC, and Microsoft charges for it in the Store on most machines. Converting the photo to JPG sidesteps the whole problem for free — the result opens in every app, browser, and upload form ever made.
Will converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
This tool converts at 90% JPEG quality, which is visually indistinguishable from the original for viewing, sharing and printing. Like any HEIC-to-JPG conversion the change is technically lossy, so if you care about archival quality, keep the HEIC original and use the JPG copy for compatibility.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No — and for camera-roll photos that's the whole point. Your pictures carry location data, faces, and moments you didn't plan to share with a random converter site. Here the decoder (the same open-source libheif used by professional software, compiled to WebAssembly) runs inside your browser, and photos never leave your device.
How do I make my iPhone use JPG instead of HEIC?
Open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG directly. "High Efficiency" switches back to HEIC. You'll trade storage space for the compatibility — many people keep HEIC on and just convert the occasional photo that needs it.
