When you need a 200 KB image
A 200 KB limit is common on government forms, exam registrations, visa applications, job portals and profile-photo systems. Phone cameras often create files several megabytes in size, so changing the file extension or cropping a small border is rarely enough. The image normally needs to be re-encoded, and a very detailed photo may also need fewer pixels to fit reliably.

Does this tool make the image exactly 200 KB?
It aims slightly below 200,000 bytes so the file is accepted by portals with a 200 KB maximum. The final size can be smaller because image encoders cannot always land on one exact byte count.
Why did the image dimensions become smaller?
The compressor lowers encoding quality first. If a detailed image still cannot fit below 200 KB, it reduces the dimensions until the file meets the target while preserving the original aspect ratio.
Should I use JPG, WebP or PNG?
Auto is recommended. It uses JPG for ordinary photos and WebP when transparency is detected. PNG is lossless and often needs much smaller dimensions to fit a strict 200 KB limit.
