    When a 500 KB image is useful

    Many university, visa, job and government portals set a 500 KB ceiling for photographs or scanned supporting images. The same target works well for website content and email because it cuts transfer time without forcing most screen-sized photos into extreme compression. Starting with the largest file available usually produces a better result than repeatedly compressing an already degraded copy.

    Is 500 KB the same as 0.5 MB?

    For upload limits, 500 KB is commonly described as 0.5 MB. This tool targets below 500,000 bytes, which also stays below 500 KiB, so it is safe whichever convention the receiving website uses.

    Will a 500 KB photo still look clear?

    Usually yes for profile photos, application images and normal web use. Very large or highly detailed images may need reduced dimensions. The compressor keeps as much quality as it can while meeting the size ceiling.

    What happens to transparent PNG files?

    Auto mode uses WebP when it detects transparency, keeping transparent areas with much better compression than PNG often provides. Choose PNG output only when the destination specifically requires PNG.

    Can FileWren see my image?
